This is the start of something.........

Hi Bloggers

I have decided to start a blog for my garden. I think that it would be a good idea to follow the progress of the garden as we seemed to have done so much this last year and a half.

The greenhouse was erected last year followed by some old beams from the barn that have been made into a raised bed. The other raised bed made from sleepers was filled with a couple of gooseberry bushes and a blackcurrant bush that was moved from elsewhere in the garden - they have fruited this year and I have made some lovely jam - Mmmm :)

We had a large lilac tree, that in the drought in early summer, decided that it would uproot itself! With sadness, we pulled it down safely and a friend of ours (Bruce) came around and chopped it up with his chainsaw. We put all the trunk in the wood store and the leaves and smaller branches went off to the tip for the green skip. I will be sad not to see this tree come into bloom every year, but it is like someone has switched on a light in the garden!

The second thing we did was get a patio laid outside the back door - so we now have a water feature that is coming on, pots with pansies and some wooden beds for grow bags, again made by Bruce. Its looking much better and will be more practical in the winter.

Mike, a chap who helps us with the garden has done a grand job on getting all the beds weeded, followed by weed suppressant and bark that has then been put down. It is looking so much better now. Since my husband Tim has had his knee operation, it means that we need some help.

Lastly, James (son) and Tim (husband) have built "Chickenopolis"! We have pulled down the old sheds and claimed back part of the garden. We have then put up a chicken enclosure for the ducks and hens to ensure that they are safe in the garden and not able to escape. We have cleared the area and moved their houses in.

This now leaves me with a garden area that I need to develop further - a mini allotment I hope.
Watch this space for progress.
