Well, not so much has happened since my last post, but I thought I would update you and share some photo's. Firstly, we have had some lovely weather and this encouraged me to take some photo's of the garden to share with you all.
This is the Patio that we had laid in August 2011. It looks settled in now and is starting to weather well. We have some planters there, made for my by my friend Bruce. Next year, they will each have a grow bag in planted up with something nice. The pots were given to me by my friend Karen and as you can see we have some winter flowering pansies in them and a trough that I had with some lovely viola's. I love pansy's - they remind me of my granny and they look like little faces smiling back at you from the garden. Purple is also my favourite colour.
The little enclosed garden by the barn is looking nice now. Mike has put down some weed-supressent on the beds with bark on top. He has also trimmed the willow right back by the pond. The blue tits won't be to happy about this, but it will come back nice next year. I am also hopeful that the roses that we have planted will come out beautiful next year. I do love roses and there are an additional six in the garden this year. Four of those are in the enclosed garden. The following photo's will give you an idea of the work ahead in part of the garden we have claimed back from the chickens:
These photo's show you the patch of ground I have to play with and the jobs I need to do before I can start to make it look better and have some nice things growing there. I will talk more about my plans for this area next time Bloggers. Colette x

This is the start of something.........

Hi Bloggers

I have decided to start a blog for my garden. I think that it would be a good idea to follow the progress of the garden as we seemed to have done so much this last year and a half.

The greenhouse was erected last year followed by some old beams from the barn that have been made into a raised bed. The other raised bed made from sleepers was filled with a couple of gooseberry bushes and a blackcurrant bush that was moved from elsewhere in the garden - they have fruited this year and I have made some lovely jam - Mmmm :)

We had a large lilac tree, that in the drought in early summer, decided that it would uproot itself! With sadness, we pulled it down safely and a friend of ours (Bruce) came around and chopped it up with his chainsaw. We put all the trunk in the wood store and the leaves and smaller branches went off to the tip for the green skip. I will be sad not to see this tree come into bloom every year, but it is like someone has switched on a light in the garden!

The second thing we did was get a patio laid outside the back door - so we now have a water feature that is coming on, pots with pansies and some wooden beds for grow bags, again made by Bruce. Its looking much better and will be more practical in the winter.

Mike, a chap who helps us with the garden has done a grand job on getting all the beds weeded, followed by weed suppressant and bark that has then been put down. It is looking so much better now. Since my husband Tim has had his knee operation, it means that we need some help.

Lastly, James (son) and Tim (husband) have built "Chickenopolis"! We have pulled down the old sheds and claimed back part of the garden. We have then put up a chicken enclosure for the ducks and hens to ensure that they are safe in the garden and not able to escape. We have cleared the area and moved their houses in.

This now leaves me with a garden area that I need to develop further - a mini allotment I hope.
Watch this space for progress.
